  1. 'Tears and Pavane' is the track that has stayed with me for thirty years - an exquistite masterpiece. In fact Strawbs are still about and often tour as an acoustic trio, still performing Tears, while the rest of life stands still for six and a half minutes. Of the bonus tracks, /5(48).
  2. Album Description. The remastering of the Strawbs' best album (A&M is the new catalog number) sports the finest sound of any of their CDs, which, by itself, would make this purchase worthwhile -- the detailed notes and the presence of three bonus tracks -- the shorter, punchier single version of "Lay Down," "Will Ye Go," and "Backside" -- only add to the enticements offered.
  3. Ghosts is perhaps my favorite Strawbs album, but for very different reasons, and it marks the point at which the Strawbs appear to be deliberately reaching for an audience that never materialized. The liner notes. that one of the other Witchwood members included verbatim, accurately reflect the many influences and the maturity on Bursting.

  5. Well, most of the Strawbs' back catalogue is pretty essential, really, but for much Mellotron, concentrate on Grave New World, Bursting at the Seams, Hero and Heroine, Ghosts and Deep Cuts, plus BBC Vol. 2 and maybe The Complete Strawbs. The band have been a regular touring outfit again since the mid-'80s, sometimes acoustic, sometimes the full.
  6. Apr 16,  · My take on Bursting At The Seams: Well its a good album, but a bit hit and miss for me. Part Of The Union (Hudson/Ford) was a huge hit but to me smacks of not much more than a novelty song -a shame it represents their commercial peak. And yet we also get a classic (and easily a top 5 Strawbs song for me) Tears & Pavan.
  7. Strawbs (or The Strawbs) are an English rock band founded in as the Strawberry Hill Boys. Although the band started out as a bluegrass group, they eventually moved on to other styles such as folk rock, progressive rock, and (briefly) glam rock.. They are best known for their hit, "Part of the Union", which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart in February , as well as for "Lay.
